Lake Oswego UMC offers a host of programs to provide inspiration and support as well as opportunities for spiritual growth and service.



Opportunities To Serve



In the Community

  • Donations to FISH and the West Linn Food Pantry
  • Serve at the Sunnyside UMC "Hardtimes Supper"
  • Provide a meal for homeless street youth
  • Volunteer at our local transitional apartment
  • Help build a Habitat for Humanity House
  • Volunteer with seasonal projects
  • Address rising needs through the Outreach Committee
  • Work for justice on housing, health care, and domestic violence

At Church

  • Serve coffee during our fellowship time
  • Usher during worship services
  • Provide flower arrangements for the altar
  • Help maintain the church grounds and buildings
  • Serve on a program committee
  • Help in the kitchen
  • Volunteer in the church office

For Children and Youth


Sunday Christian Education Classes

Nursery care is provided through age three in
our nursery during both worship services.

10:15 a.m. Age-level classes for children ages three years through Sr. High.

Youth Groups

Interested participants are welcomed at any meeting.

  • RAD: (Radically Active Disciples) Fourth and fifth graders meets on the first and third Sundays from 5-6:30 p.m.
  • MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH FELLOWSHIP for sixth, seventh and eighth graders meet Sundays from 5-6:30 p.m.
  • SENIOR HIGH YOUTH FELLOWSHIP: Ninth through twelfth graders meet Sundays from 5-6:30 p.m.
  • CONFIRMATION CLASS: For sixth, seventh and eighth graders, this three-year program explores the faith questions and church life important to teens. The class meets monthly; time and days vary.

Music Groups

  • ANGEL CHOIR: For age three through kindergarten. They meet on Sundays during the 10:15 church school time. Jenny Cook, Angel Choir Director
  • JUNIOR CHOIR: For kindergarten through sixth graders, this group meets on Sunday mornings 9:45 to 10:15 am.
  • FARSIDE BAND: A praise band made up of Jr. and Sr. High youth.
  • YOUTH HANDBELL CHOIR: For middle school and high school youth, this choir rehearses on Sundays at 4:00 p.m.

Other Opportunities

Youth are also involved in District and Conference youth retreats, summer camps, family gatherings, recreational opportunities, and an annual summer mission trip.

Activities For Adults


Sunday Christian Education Classes

Interested participants are welcomed at any meeting.

  • FAITH IN ACTION — is an ongoing discussion open to all on a drop in basis during the connection hour. It is a place where opinions on significant current topics can be discussed openly in a respectful and unbiased manner. Topics are chosen by consensus and Methodist sources are turned to for guidance on moral issues.
  • PROBERS: Class focus is on a variety of topics, including book reviews and video series. Each winter the class studies "Great Decisions." They meet in the Chapel/Library at 9:15 a.m.
  • Small groups are forming now for friendship, encouragement, and spritual growth.

Weekday Education Classes

Interested participants are welcome at any meeting.

  • TUESDAY EVENING CLASSES: A variety of Bible studies, spiritual formation, and topical classes are offered throughout the year. The classes are taught by the pastor or members of the congregation. Call for current schedules.
  • FRIDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY: Traditional Bible study that meets Fridays at 9:30 am at the church. Call the church office for details.
  • OPEN HEARTS: A group that meets on Thursday mornings from 10:00 to noon in the Conference Room
  • COFFEE GROUP: An informal discussion group that meets Fridays at 7:30 a.m. Leadership and sharing of topics rotate among group members. New people are always welcome.

Adult Music Groups

  • CHANCEL CHOIR: This choir rehearses on Wednesdays from 7-8:30 p.m. (Childcare provided as requested.) The choir sings at the 10:15 worship service during the school year.

Interested participants are welcomed at any rehearsal.

  • LAKE CARILLON & VESPER BELLS: Our two handbell choirs each play once a month at the 10:15 a.m. worship service.
  • FLIPSIDE PRAISE BAND: This group of musicians provides the music for the 8:30 a.m. informal worship service, Sunday Morning Alive! Their two CDs, “Our Maker's Dozen” and “Mary Did You Know?” (Christmas) is currently available.
  • ENSEMBLES AND SOLOISTS: A number of vocalists and instrumentalists provide special music for worship services.

Interest/Fellowship Groups

Interested participants are welcomed at any meeting.

  • CRAFT GROUP: Creative people interested in creating crafts for our seasonal bazaars meet Wednesdays from 9:30 to noon.
  • PAINTING GROUP: Oil and watercolor painters meet weekly at a member's home. For information contact the Church office.
  • LUNCH BUNCH: An informal prepared luncheon on the 3rd Thursday of the month at noon. The cost is $3.50 and open to anyone.
  • UNITED METHODIST WOMEN: Women meet monthly for study, service, and fellowship. They actively support local and global ministries. Contact the Church office for details.
  • MEN'S GROUP:All men are invited to join in the discussions centered around a variety of books. They meet Sunday nights at 7:00 p.m.
